Five atmospheric, thoughtful and experimental short films that explore the teenage experience through an avant-garde and dreamlike gaze.

1. TAP BOY Dir: Will Kenning; UK; 2021; 15 mins

Trapped within a county lines drug gang, a vulnerable teenager finds escape by practicing tap dance wherever he can. But when his dreams start to take over his gangland responsibilities he’s faced with a terrible choice.

2. GIRLS SHOULDN’T WALK ALONE AT NIGHT Dir: Katerine Martineau; Canada; 2020; 17 mins

After a late-night high school graduation party, Chantal and Delphine find themselves walking home alone in the dark. Lost in the forest, their long night walk is punctuated by carelessness and an irrepressible desire to exist.

3. APRIL’S LAST MEMORIES Dir: Nancy Cruz Orozco; México; 2020; 20 mins

Camila and April grew up together in a small town on the coast and are best friends. But April’s family are moving to the city, and their paths will have to separate forever.

4. MIDNIGHT TILL 8 Dir: Eryn Wilson; New Zealand; 2019; 16 mins

A small-town boy’s fragile connection with his depressive father threatens to unravel. It’s not until his father diffuses an inescapable threat that this son witnesses his father’s true mettle.

5. FOLLOW ME Dir: Franziska Pflaum; Germany; 2021; 38 mins

To escape the dreariness and loneliness of village life, Lilli disappears into the memories of happy moments from the past.

Age Recommendation: 15+

Contains moderate/strong language throughout and scenes that may upset younger audiences.
