1. NOTICE ME (Dir: Catherine Shelley) A documentary which highlights how society commonly disregards those who are living homeless.

2. CLAY AND THE CAMERA (Dir: Marley Rouse) Ciaran Patton talks about his world of stop motion films and shows the process of making his own films.

3. FROM HIS PERSPECTIVE (Dir: Caleb Julian Roberts) A queer-focused narrative documentary short that combines the seemingly harmless; the often deliberate, the purposefully ignorant and the scarce compassionate moments, that dominate the life of a transgender man.

4. LINGERING MELANCHOLY (Dir: Philip Rainey) A poetic exploration of time & space and an illustration of how a past invent can instil a haunting ambiance decades later.

5. PRICKS (Dir: Adam Salisbury) A type 1 diabetics look at new life changing technology.

6. 33 (Dir: Dylan Beaton-Jaramillo) A documentary exploring the experiences of African and Caribbean students at a British private school.

7. THE ARTIST’S HAT (Dir: Louis Moss) A short surreal documentary following an artist and the creation of his hat!

8. A PHONE CALL AWAY (Dir: Megan Turner) A short documentary looking into loneliness in lockdown.

9. 300 DAYS IN LIMBO (Dir: Ivana Slavcheva) A short pandemic documentary on the experiences, emotions and challenges we lived through individually and collectively.

Age Recommendation: 15+ (Some scenes that may be unsuitable for young people under 15).

Every year we receive hundreds of entries into CINEMAGIC YOUNG FILMMAKER from young people wishing to share their stories with a wider audience. In 2021 we received over 600 short film submissions from the next generation of young creatives and we a delighted to share with you the competition shortlists.

The shortlists are presented in several different genre packages including – Drama, Animation, Documentary, Fantastic, Experimental, Music Video, Short Shorts and Under 18.

As well as celebrating their work, the Young Filmmaker Shortlist Showcase allows young directors to view films made by their peers and offers the opportunity for them to network online and talk movies! Join us as we celebrate the achievements of young people and meet the filmmaking stars of the future.
