1. MARIONNE (Dir: Samantha Mutsch) A young aspiring puppeteer working towards her dream on the stage is forced into lockdown during a pandemic.

2. CYCLEPATHS (Dir: Mercer MacWilliam Hughes) A biking enthusiast finds himself out of his depth when he attempts to educate a bank robber!

3. ROOTS (Dir: Claire Mulligan) A film about identity, showing the effects of hair and racial discrimination.

4. GET HOME SAFE (Dir: Maddy Flaherty) A woman’s walk home is not the same as a man’s.

5. STAY HOME (Dir: Isaac Macpherson) During lockdown, a young woman heads to the countryside to escape the claustrophobia of her troubled family life.

6. HARD-BOILED (Dir: Lauren Scott & Jack Williams) An out-of-the-ordinary artist becomes desperate in his attempt to create a masterpiece.

7. SILENCE IS VIOLENCE (Dir: Charlotte Imbert) Olivia decides to organise a protest and sets about spreading the word on social media.

8. LITTLE MOMENTS - S (Dir: Oisin McKeogh) Several events shape the adolescence of a teenage girl in rural Ireland.

9. ABODE (Dir: Anna Bant) After confronting her friend, a young woman finds herself venturing the streets in rejection from society

10. EYES WIDE OPEN (Dir: Alafiyah Rehmanji, Hannah Grange, Monay Thomas, Noah Hecht & Shadman Kabir) Consumed by despondency, disconnection and disquiet, three young people try to find their voices.

11. THE REVEAL (Dir: Rakib Miah) Two writers are trying to come up with a new idea for their short film but it begins to take a terrible turn.

Age Recommendation: 15+ (Strong language and scenes that may be unsuitable for young people under 15).

Every year we receive hundreds of entries into CINEMAGIC YOUNG FILMMAKER from young people wishing to share their stories with a wider audience. In 2021 we received over 600 short film submissions from the next generation of young creatives and we a delighted to share with you the competition shortlists.

The shortlists are presented in several different genre packages including – Drama, Animation, Documentary, Fantastic, Experimental, Music Video, Short Shorts and Under 18.

As well as celebrating their work, the Young Filmmaker Shortlist Showcase allows young directors to view films made by their peers and offers the opportunity for them to network online and talk movies! Join us as we celebrate the achievements of young people and meet the filmmaking stars of the future.
