2. KIWI’S DREAM (Dir: Paloma Zhu) When an origami kiwi dreams of flying in the clouds, his friends decide to help him.

3. HOPE’S WAY (Dir: Arista Kamila) One day a butterfly flew into the town and brought colour and life.

4. I ONCE DREAMT THAT I WAS A PEACOCK (Dir: Van Bui) Experimenting with filming shadows and pondering about dreams.

5. PIECE OF CAKE (Dir: Sarah Huff) A tantalising tale of temptation.

6. GOODBYE WORLD (Dir: Ruby Black) A stop motion cut-out animation, with the aim to raise awareness of the climate crisis.

7. WAITING (Dir: Liucija Vaisiunaite) The film is about the journey of a man facing his obsession.

8. MAMA_ (Dir: Adam Pandey) In these trying times, a little hope goes a long way.

9. OSIRIS’ GIFT (Dir: Kerry Howlett) A dreamscape that follows a discovery of mythical mushrooms said to grant immortality.

10. MOFO RELAY (Dir: Shunny Kim & Taewan Kim) An experimental animation about sea space aliens having a good time.

11. MEM MEM (Dir: Shunny Kim) An Interpretation Adaptation of Anna Meredith’s Hands Free. Experimental animation of Foot trees and hand trees…and bugs.

12. STAR SEEKER (Dir: Becky Clifford) This short film follows the life of the Star Seeker: a small creature that looks after the dreams and wishes found within stars.

13. MEAT PIGGY (Dir: Matilda Flood) Meat Piggy explores the relationship we have with farm animals.

14. DREAMS (Dir: Prathik Poojary & Cameron Cook) Join Schwi, our studio mascot, as they leap, dive, and explode through a myriad of perilous realms to showcase our range of experimental animation styles!

15. SPACE YOUTH PROJECT (Dir: Sasha Alexdottir) The little shoot grows into a beautiful flower, the garden becomes bright and sunny.

Every year we receive hundreds of entries into CINEMAGIC YOUNG FILMMAKER from young people wishing to share their stories with a wider audience. In 2021 we received over 600 short film submissions from the next generation of young creatives and we a delighted to share with you the competition shortlists.

The shortlists are presented in several different genre packages including – Drama, Animation, Documentary, Fantastic, Experimental, Music Video, Short Shorts and Under 18.

As well as celebrating their work, the Young Filmmaker Shortlist Showcase allows young directors to view films made by their peers and offers the opportunity for them to network online and talk movies! Join us as we celebrate the achievements of young people and meet the filmmaking stars of the future.
